Homebrewed MIDI Parser Pt. 2

This post, written by Elder Prince, falls under the micro-update category.

It offers a glimpse into the work happening between major reveals—technical steps that, while less exciting, are essential to making real progress. Just long hours and geeky stuff behind the curtain!

Made some great progress on the MIDI parser today! I’ve been working on the MidiReader module in C#, and it’s almost working perfectly. But man, debugging at the byte level is no joke; definitely not as simple as handling human-friendly formats like JSON. That said, seeing the data finally align properly is super satisfying.

Had a lot of back-and-forth with ChatGPT during the process. It’s not magic, and even with its so-called above-human intelligence, it still made mistakes—and in a way, it was even learning from me. Honestly, it felt more like teamwork, which I think is a great thing. So yeah, AI isn’t stealing our jobs just yet! 😆

Next up, I’ll be tackling the MidiWriter module. That’s where things will get really exciting since I’ll be able to automate most sound effects via Sysex messages on my Yamaha PSR-S910.

The music engine endeavor is a key part of my upcoming Eternal Eden soundtrack production.
