A New Chapter for Blossomsoft: Licensed Derivative Works for $1!
Over the years, I’ve received messages from people who enjoyed Eternal Eden and wondered if they could remake it, reimagine it, or adapt it into something new themselves. I suspect some of them were simply getting impatient waiting for my next creations. Fair enough!😄
Until recently, I honestly didn’t have a good answer.
Like many indie developers, I wanted to encourage creativity while also protecting the characters, stories, and worlds I’ve spent years creating. Those two goals can sometimes seem at odds with each other.
After giving it a lot of thought, especially as generative AI has begun changing how people create and express their ideas, I’ve decided to take inspiration from Stephen King’s famous Dollar Baby program and create my own initiative: Blossom’s Blessing.
A Simple Goal
If you’re an indie developer, an aspiring creator, or simply someone passionate about one of my works, I’m now open to licensing derivative projects for a symbolic fee of $1 CAD.
Why one dollar?
Because this isn’t about making money from other people’s passion.
The dollar simply makes the agreement a real contract while clearly defining everyone’s rights. You get permission to create and commercially release your derivative work, and I retain ownership of the original intellectual property.
Everybody knows where they stand.
What Kind of Projects?
This isn’t limited to video games.
Maybe you want to recreate Eternal Eden in another engine.
Maybe you’d like to adapt one of my short stories into a movie.
Maybe you envision an anime-inspired series, a graphic novel, a visual novel, a tabletop RPG, or even a creative weekly AI-assisted adaptation like a web series.
If it’s a respectful reinterpretation of one of my works, I’m interested in hearing about it.
The medium isn’t what matters.
Your passion and your vision are.
The First Example: Eternal Eden™ Resurgence
The first project created under this philosophy is Eternal Eden™ Resurgence, developed by Wathitdew Record. Feel free to visit its Steam page [here], and if you like what you see, please consider adding it to your wishlist!

As a longtime fan of the original game, Benoit Clément, approached me with the idea of recreating the 2008 classic using Smile Game Builder (Smile Engine). This fan remake aims to preserve the spirit of the original while faithfully following its story, characters, and overall atmosphere.
Rather than creating an entirely new game, the project faithfully reimagines the original Eternal Eden using Smile Game Builder, transforming its classic grid-based 2D presentation into a new 3D style. According to the developer, it might be your chance to play Eternal Eden on the Nintendo Switch 1 and 2.
It’s exactly the kind of project that inspired this initiative: a genuine fan who invested the time and effort to bring a new interpretation of something they loved.
I’m grateful that the project was completed and released instead of remaining another unfinished dream.
What the Agreement Does
The agreement is intentionally simple.
It allows creators to publish and sell their derivative work while making one important thing clear:
The original intellectual property; including the characters, story, world, and future of the franchise, remains mine.
In return, creators keep the revenue generated by their own project and retain ownership of the original artistic and technical work they personally create for it. I don’t ask for royalties or a percentage of sales. If you become the next millionaire because of it, though… I certainly won’t say no to a donation! 😄
It’s not about restricting creativity.
It’s about making sure everyone understands the boundaries from the beginning.
Why I’m Doing This
As an independent developer myself, I know how difficult it can be to complete a project.
I’m also, admittedly, getting older and facing a few health challenges. 😢
None of us can predict what the future holds, and while I have no intention of giving up creating, I also recognize that I may not always be able to bring every idea I dream up to life myself.
If someone feels inspired enough to reinterpret one of my worlds with passion and respect, I’d rather encourage that creativity than let those possibilities remain forever unexplored.
If someone genuinely cares enough about one of my creations to spend months, or even years, bringing their own vision to life, I’d rather encourage that creativity than shut it down with a legal notice.
At the same time, I also want to ensure that the future of my franchises remains protected so I can continue creating new stories, games, and worlds.
Your version might not be canon within my own universe, and that’s perfectly okay. Blossom’s Blessing is about encouraging creative reinterpretations, not redefining the official continuity. I believe those two goals can coexist.
Interested?
If you have an idea for a derivative work based on one of my games, stories, or other original creations, I’d love to hear about it.
Tell me about your project. If you’ve already started working on it, even better! I’d appreciate seeing a prototype, screenshots, a short demo, concept art, a manuscript, or whatever best represents your progress. Seeing something tangible helps me understand your vision and lets me know you’re serious about bringing the project to life before we discuss a licensing agreement.
If it feels like a good fit, we can discuss a simple licensed derivative work agreement in exchange for a symbolic payment. Traditionally that’s one dollar, but I’m happy to use whatever currency, or even another symbolic token of consideration, we both agree upon at the time of signing.
Who knows?
Your project might become the next official example featured under $1 Blossom’s Blessing.
