This post, written by Elder Prince, falls under the micro-update category.
It offers a glimpse into the work happening between major reveals—technical steps that, while less exciting, are essential to making real progress. Just long hours and geeky stuff behind the curtain!
Like I mentioned before, this year is all about the music of Eternal Eden. I’m not just planning to drop a bunch of MP3s into the game. I want full control with music that’s interactive and adaptive, reacting in real time to what’s happening in-game. There are some fun concepts I’m really excited to explore. That’s why I’m so invested in building all of this from the ground up.
Quick recap:
Back in March, I spent two weeks building out my MIDI system. It can now read existing MIDI files and generate new ones from scratch, which lets me automate all kinds of MIDI events super easily. The core of it is working really well.
Where I’m at now:
I’m knee-deep in an 80-page data list for my Yamaha PSR-S910 workstation, converting it into C# enums and classes. Yeah. Super geeky stuff; might sound boring unless you’re into that kinda thing. The goal is to get full control over sending and receiving signals to/from the keyboard through a flexible interface.
I also just kicked off the first version of a Piano roll, plus a tracker-style controller. Both are still rough, but they’re in motion.
Chill & Honest:
I’ve never had the best finger skills… Definitely more of a composer than a performer. That’s why quick and easy MIDI editing with a mouse and auto-generating tools is a must for me.
The plan is to wrap up this milestone by the end of April. It’d be a dream come true to start sharing music tracks this summer!
