This post, written by Elder Prince, falls under my behind-the-scenes micro-updates—it’s here to keep you in the loop between major releases.
I use Matomo, a super useful WordPress add-on that lets me track basic visitor behavior, mostly just which pages people visit.
It’s an open-source web analytics platform that prioritizes user privacy. Unlike Google Analytics, it doesn’t share data with third parties, making it a great choice for businesses that must comply with privacy laws like GDPR, CCPA, PECR, and LGPD.
In other words, Matomo keeps my site free from those annoying cookie popups. Honestly, I think those popups are ruining mainstream websites. I usually bounce the second I see one, especially when they make it a hassle to adjust settings.
Tracking visits is important; it helps me see that I still have regular readers and which blog posts are getting the most interest. For example, the walkthrough section is getting a lot of traffic, which means people are still playing the 2008 version of Eternal Eden passionately! Yay! I can even see their progress as they move through different chapters day by day. It for sure motivates me to release a new game.
Plus, newsletter signups are on the rise! Sadly, donations? Almost nonexistent.😅
