Micro Updates (August 2024)

The following blog post carries the personal thoughts of Elder Prince, founder of Blossomsoft Games.

Hey everyone!

Instead of writing full blog posts for quick bi-weekly or daily updates, I’m just gonna jot down my dev thoughts in this thread as comments. This will keep the blog neat and tidy instead of getting bogged down with tons of little updates. They might not be crucial updates, but at least you’ll know I’m alive and working on something.

  1. UPDATE

I’ll keep it to one line, everyone: Everything’s going great lately, and I’m able to put a lot of time into game dev. Fingers crossed it stays that way!

  2. UPDATE

I’m using these last two days of August to wrap up this major cleanup of my hard drives, and then it’s full-time on Eternal Eden. Sorting through 10TB of material was insane. Stagsi has been a lifesaver. I don’t think I could’ve managed the growing complexity of asset management without it!

I’m finding files I completely forgot about, along with bits of old demos from the past decade.

What’s really impressing me are the drafts of the game soundtrack I made for Eternal Eden: Ecclesia when I purchased my Yamaha Workstation back in 2011. I definitely plan to use them officially at some point.

I’m still doing food deliveries, but now that I’m free of credit card debt (thank God!), I’m spending way more time at my PC, making real progress on the game. It’s useful to study in my car or play retro games on my Miyoo Mini Plus for inspiration.

  3. UPDATE

I’m dedicating this last week of August to reorganizing 10 TB of hard drive content spread across three Western Digital My Passport HDDs.

This effort is also tied to Stagsi, the file management program I use to tag all my project and reference files. This kind of work was long overdue and is crucial for reviving my game projects, especially to ensure their future with secure backup plans.

I’m able to tackle this now thanks to having that 23K debt cleared all at once at the start of August. Finally, I can focus on smart, productive work at home instead of spending so much time on side gigs.

Starting in September, I’m excited to dedicate most of my time to my game projects.

  4. UPDATE

Up to now, this is the folder hierarchy for the Ruby files in the RGSS++ framework. It’s way better than working in the RPG Maker VX Ace scripting editor!

Noticed the ‘tags’ column? It helps me organize the folders by theme instead of just going alphabetically.

  5. UPDATE

Heck yeah! I can finally dive into my game projects on my PC, and it’s all thanks to my amazing online friend from Russia. Seriously, I can’t thank him enough! Without his help, I’d still be stuck doing food deliveries full time.

I’m picking up right where I left off eight months ago. I’m making progress with my RGSS++ migration for the Mandela Edition, and I’m really happy with how things are coming along. I’ve been developing some toolsets with C# Winforms to better manage my development environment. See, the Mandela Edition needs a lot of .rb files (Ruby programming), so having tailored management is crucial.

I can’t wait to dive deeper into the battle system. The new features I’m working on will make you want to rediscover this newly remastered game again.

I’ve been busy upgrading the website, and you might have noticed a few tweaks here and there. I kept the overall design the same because I like it that way, but I switched from ‘Twenty Twenty Two’ to ‘Twenty Twenty Four’ (WordPress jargon). It was a lot of work behind the scenes, but it will allow me to take advantage of the new features.

Once my code is finished, I’ll begin to share more gameplay videos showing the new features.
