Devlog: party member switching

The following blog post carries the personal thoughts of Elder Prince, founder of Blossomsoft Games.

Hey folks, time for a quick Mandela Edition update from the game dev trenches.

I’m currently involved in the implementation of a nifty little feature – the Party Switcher. In the original game, there was no way to switch characters. Plus, the RPG Maker VX engine I’m using doesn’t come with this feature out of the box. 🤷‍♂️

I initially thought about tackling this through the game menu, but, truth be told, I didn’t want to get stuck in menu-scripting limbo. 🙅‍♂️ I’ve got other Eternal Eden games to make, after all! RPG Maker VX is notorious for its challenging scripting capabilities. So, I put on my thinking cap and came up with a simpler solution.

I’m adding a special room in each dungeon. These rooms will not only house the Treasure Hall, like in the original game, but they’ll also serve as hubs for some cool stuff. One of those practical things is party member switching.

Now, you might be wondering, what else can these rooms do? Well, they’ll also be your ticket to fast-travel within the dungeon. Think of them as handy shortcuts to different spots in the maze-like dungeons I’ve got in store for you. 🎮

Stay tuned for more updates. 🚀🎉

I’m really curious about those special rooms in the dungeons. Do you think they’ll have, like, their own special look or just kind of blend in with the rest of the dungeon? I’m kinda dying to find out how this mandela game pans out.
